Motivational Enhancement Therapy - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy 12:

The MET/CBT 7 Cannabis Youth Treatment Series Volume 2 manual is a supplement to Motivational Enhancement Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Adolescent Cannabis Users: 5 Sessions, cannabis Youth Treatment (CYT) Series, Volume 1. MET/CBT 7 presents a seven-session cognitive behavioral treatment (CBT-7) approach designed especially for adolescent cannabis users. It addresses the implementation and evaluation of cognitive behavioral treatment for adolescent marijuana users as part of the Cannabis Youth treatment Project: A Cooperative Agreement for Evaluating the Efficacy of Five Treatments for Adolescents With Self-Reported Marijuana Use and Problems associated With Its Use.

When combined with MET/CBT 5 manual the approach has been called MET/CBT 12. The MET/CBT 7 manual was developed by Charles Webb, Ph.D., Meleney Scudder, Psy.D., Yifrah Kaminer, M.D., Ron Kadden, Ph.D. as a part of the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) Cannabis Youth Treatment (CYT) Series trials.

The Cannabis Youth Treatment Series originally demonstrated effective treatment for adolescent marijuana abuse/dependency disorders but the subsequent Effective Adolescent Treatment series (EAT) demonstrated that MET CBT 5 can be effective in treating other substance disorders in diverse populations as well. To be used for this purpose the materials in the manual need to be adopted to include other abused substances.
